Questions & Answers

Medical Peels

What exactly does a medical peel do?

Medical peels, sometimes referred to as chemical peels, rejuvinate the skin surface by removing the top layer of skin cells. This shedding of skin is even and controlled allowing the new layers of skin to be exposed, resulting in a fresh look and appearance, with an even tone.

How long will the results last?

This depends on your skin type and tone. For severe skin problems, several peels over a period of time or a stronger treatment may be advised.

Do medical peels hurt?

Once the formula is applied to your face, there will be a deep burning sensation that will last for approximately 20 minutes. This is normal. The more intensive this feeling is the better the peel is working.

Can I have a medical peel if I have sensitive skin?

We can determine and discuss this during your free consultation. Medical peels are hypoallergenic due to the washing and refining process of the formula. We can safely test the peel on a small, hidden patch of skin to test your body’s reaction to it.

What results can I expect from a facial peel?

The result is a dramatically softer, smoother younger look, so rejuvenating the skin, reducing fine lines, wrinkles and scarring.

BOTOX®

What exactly is BOTOX®?

Botox® consists of a protein produced by a bacterium. This is called Clostridium botulinum. Botox® temporarily reduces frown lines, forehead lines, lines around the mouth and crow’s feet.

During treatment, very small doses of Botox® are injected into facial muscles, which causes them to relax and smooths out the skin. The treatment is usually done in about 10 minutes, and no recovery time is needed, meaning you can literally have a session of Botox® in your lunchtime and return to work in the afternoon.

Does it hurt?

Botox® for a large majority of users is slightly uncomfortable rather than painful. Any discomfort felt is usually minimal and brief. Before we administer the Botox® injections, we prepare the area with a cold compress, which numbs the area. The entire procedure will not take longer than 10-15 minutes.

What results can I expect from BOTOX® injections?

Results following treatment will take from 4-10 days to become visible. The results will last between 3-4 months depending on lifestyle factors and how your muscles react to the effects of the BOTOX® injections.

Are there any after effects from the injections?

Our highly experienced practitioners will ensure that there are no side effects aside from occasional bruising that may occur. Please feel free to discuss any concurns you may have with your practitioner in our free consultation.

Dermal Fillers

Who do Dermal Fillers benefit?

Dermal fillers are great for treating the following: naso labial lines (between the nose and mouth), ‘smile lines’ in the corners of the mouth, depressions and blemishes (such as acne scars), hollow or sunken cheeks (caused by fat atrophy due to the ageing process), correcting indentations, bumps and unevenness in the nose and chin, tips and improving contours of the jaw. Dermal fillers can also be used to enhance lips.

How long will it take administer dermal fillers?

Depending on the area treated, approximately 30-45 minutes.

How are dermal fillers administered?

The area to be treated will be numbed using a topical cream anaesthetic. Once this has taken effect the area to be treated will be injected with the most suitable form of dermal filler to give the best results.

What are gel fillers such as restylane and how do they work?

Gel fillers work by replacing a lost substance in your skin. This substance is called hyaluronan, and works by binding water molecules together and keeping your skin moist.

These water molecules act as a cushion for your skin, and is why young, healthy skin is often described as ‘plump’ skin. Over time, the moisturising properties of hyaluronan lose their effectiveness and cause sagging and creasing in the skin. By injecting a gel filler into affected areas, the product acts in the same way as hyaluronan and fills out the targeted area.

In addition to lines and wrinkles, gel fillers have also been seen to be effective for reducing the appearance of scar tissue on the face.

What results can I expect from dermal fillers?

The results will be immediate. Your skin will be smoother and younger looking. Once any swelling has subsided the results will be subtle and pleasing.
